Children and Youth at Oakhurst

Leaders who care deeply for sharing the Good News of Christ as they walk each day design Sunday classes. At a child’s baptism, the congregation vows to provide for the nurture and care of each child and family. Those vows are taken seriously.  The following activities are offered:

  • Sunday classes for infants through twelfth grade are held Sundays at 10:00 a.m., except when the church is on the summer schedule.
  • Children's Choir for children through the fifth grade practices at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays. See director Ben Perkins or coordinator Jane Royall for more information.
  • Youth Choir for youth in the sixth grade and up practices after worship on the third and fourth Sundays. Contact Gladys Adams at gadams50@hotmail.com
  • Senior high and middle school youth groups meet for study and activities during the school year. Groups meet after worship and participate in study and activities, such as the area-wide Hunger Walk and AIDS Walk each year. Youth also help to lead worship and prepare for Youth Sunday each year. Three of Oakhurst’s Senior High Youth were selected to attend the Presbyterian Youth Triennium: Alexia Wynn, Joshua Randolph, and Donna Obe.
  • Adults from families of the children have their own class on Sunday morning. Families enjoy special times together at special times during the year, such as Pumpkin Day, Valentine Day, and Easter.
  • Oakhurst’s young people attend Calvin Center camp each summer. The church hosts three fund raisers during the year to provide scholarship assistance.
  • Tutoring, a project of the Community Ministry Committee, has been provided for students in the Oakhurst community for17 years. Each Tuesday, students are invited for dinner at 5:30 p.m. and then tutoring and help with homework from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Tutors are volunteers from the church and community.  Coordinator is Seven Andrews, who can be contacted at steven.andrews@ctsnet.edu.
  • Boy Scout Troop 107 is the oldest chartered troop in the metro area. The troop meets each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Scout Hut. Oakhurst Presbyterian Church provides leadership.
