Session and Committees

The Session is the governing body of the church. Representatives, called elders, are elected by the congregation to serve a three-year term. The Session makes decisions on behalf of the congregation. Members of the Session

The Board of Deacons is elected by the congregation and each deacon serves a three-year term. Deacons are members who serve others through the ministry of compassion. List of deacons

Church members volunteer to server on the following sessional committees, which are usually chaired by an elder:

  • Administration Committee: Oversees personnel, budget, stewardship, technology, and use of the building. The Communications and Technology Group provides support for the church web site, computer lab, and staff computers.
  • Building and Grounds Committee: Oversees the physical facilities and coordinates building projects.
  • Christian Education Committee: Plans the Christian education program for all classes.
  • Community Ministry Committee: Oversees the church’s programs and activities for the community, such as the clothes closet, Jump Ahead tutoring program, Earth Day Celebration, Hagar’s House for homeless women and children, DEAM food collection, DCM, and the Health Ministries Committee.   • Health Committee: Provides health information and activities for congregational well being. They coordinate congregational participation in the AIDS Walk.
  • Congregational Care Committee: Coordinates the after-church fellowship refreshments, receptions, church directory, and new member dinners.
  • Evangelism Committee: Recruits visitors and new members. They also plan and host the Gospel Fest each April to raise funds for camps and conference scholarships for youth and adults.
  • Peacemaking and Justice Committee: Oversees the justice work for the congregation ad metro area, including the Hunger Walk, Prison and Jail Project, and Bread for the World. They witness to peace and advocate for the inclusion of all people.
  • The Worship Committee: Plans Sunday morning worship and other occasions for prayer and worship. They coordinate the liturgical year activities for Advent, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. They also host the annual church anniversary celebration in September.
